Creating a splat from a video or photos

Ordinary videos and photo ZIPs can be rendered on every plan. Cloud rendering of Insta360 360 camera files (.insv) requires the Professional plan or above. In the Library, choose Create from video, or drop a file onto the page.

What you can upload

  • A walk-through video: MP4, MOV or M4V from a phone, drone or camera.
  • An Insta360 .insv recording with both lenses in one file, as the X3, X4, X5 and X6 record.
  • A .zip of JPG or PNG photos that overlap by about 60%.

Quality

  • Draft: a quick check that the capture works (about 40 minutes for a video, 1 h 15 min for a 360 recording).
  • Standard: good for most tours (about 2 to 3 hours).
  • High: the most detail (about 3 to 7 hours).

Captures are trained one at a time on our GPU server, so yours may wait for others first. The file's page shows each step: extracting frames, solving camera positions, training, and optimizing for the web.

Getting a good result

  • Walk slowly and steadily; avoid quick turns.
  • Pass through the space more than once, at different heights.
  • Even light helps. Mirrors, glass, blank walls and moving people make it harder.
  • Hold a 360 camera above your head on a stick. The person holding it is not removed automatically yet.

If camera positions can't be worked out, the page explains why. Recapturing with more overlap usually fixes it.
